Fasting to lose weight with the Lasta app: an honest review

My Experience With The Lasta App | Lasta App Pros | Lasta App Cons

I’m not new to intermittent fasting for weight loss. I’ve tried a variety of fasting strategies but prefer extended fasting windows that alternate between restricted calorie and 4000 calorie days.

Until the Lasta app, my biggest challenge was creating ultra-high meal plans. In addition to personalizing and simplifying meal planning, Lasta provides tools, resources, and motivational reminders based on cognitive behavioral therapy.

My Experience With The Lasta App

After downloading Lasta, I was guided through a 60-second quiz designed to identify my health and wellness goals. The app can be used for weight loss or building muscle mass, so the initial questions ensured that weight loss was my objective.

Once in the app, I was able to create an intense 7 day fast, alternating between ultra-high calorie days with 2 or 3 days of extreme calorie reduction. Depending on my personal and professional schedule, I sometimes do a 36 hour fast or an intense 3 day fast weight loss.

Lasta rapidly simplified meal planning and provided a variety of meaningful tools and resources.

Pros and Cons of Intermittent Fasting With Lasta

Most intermittent fasting reviews are generic, so I’ll dive in a bit deeper than most.

Pros

You Can Add The Foods You Love

The app allows you to add your favorite foods and recipes as well as the foods you don’t like. It can accommodate food allergies and dietary restrictions, and build meals around popular diets including Keto, Paleo, and Dash.

Where the app outshined the competition, is that you can add household food preferences. While my family doesn’t fast, it eliminated the need for preparing 2 separate dinners and weekend meals.

Calorie-Based Meal Plans

Lasta automated the creation of my 4000 calorie meal plan, with 4 meals per day and 2 snacks. Unlike other apps and diets, the meals included a diverse range of foods, so meals were never boring.

Since the meal plans are created by registered dieticians, my low-calorie days are nutrient-dense to keep me energized. By keeping my metabolism guessing, I activated rapid and steady weight loss.

Courses, Resources, and Psychology-Based Support

Motivation and accountability are built in through daily affirmations and reminders based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Lasta includes a variety of trackers, workouts, courses, and content designed to support whole-body health. Some courses cost an additional fee.

Cons

No Free Trial

I was already familiar with the benefits of utilizing intermittent fasting for weight loss, but it would have been nice to have a 7 or 10 day free trial. Also, to view some or all of the key points from my personalized plan before subscribing.

This would have allowed me to get a feel for how the app works and experience its full range of benefits firsthand. The monthly plan is affordable. After the first month, I upgraded to an annual plan for a greater discount.

No Calorie Tracking

There’s a water, weight, fasting, step, and mood tracker—but no calorie tracker. I prepare most of my meals when intermittent fasting, but not 100%. So, it would be nice to have a calorie tracker that I could use when I need to eat on the go. Or when eating out at restaurants or at a friend’s house.[D1]

Crosscheck as it’s confusing: https://apps.apple.com/ro/app/lasta-healthy-weight-loss/id1581590686 . Could be written as Not Efficient Calorie Tracking instead of No Calorie Tracking.

It’s Still A Lot Of Work

The benefits of fasting are worth it, and the app simplifies meal planning—but it’s still a lot of work. The personalized CBT motivation and reminders keep things fun, but I had to use the app several times per day to input tracking information.
